Larry Michael Eckhart, 79, passed away Thursday, February 26, 2026.
Larry was born May 2, 1946, in Spokane, Washington, to David and Alma (Arlt) Eckhart. He graduated from Wilson Creek High School in 1964 and entered the United States Navy that summer at the age of 18. He proudly served eight years in the Navy, including seven consecutive years in six war campaigns in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia. During his service, he worked as a Sonar Technician and was entrusted with Nuclear Weapons Security and Nuclear Weapons Handling.
Following his military service, Larry studied Electronic Engineering Technology at ITT Technical Institute in Seattle, Washington. He worked various jobs as an electronic technician and as a wheat farmer.
In 2012, Larry reunited with his former schoolmate, Sandra Granger, and they were married June 30, 2013, in Hartline, Washington. Shortly after their marriage, they made their home in Savannah, Georgia.
Larry loved nature and especially enjoyed growing plants and bird watching.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sandra Eckhart of Savannah; three stepdaughters, Dawn Imler, Jill Pratt, and Somer Patton, all of Savannah; six step-granddaughters, Kiara Patton, Nevaeh Patton, Aleigha Patton, Ellen Imler, Patton Pratt, and Mariah Manier, all of Savannah; two step-grandsons, Elijah Patton and Wilder Pratt, both of Savannah; two nephews, Jay Eckhart of Almira, Washington and Ken Eckhart of Soap Lake, Washington; one niece, Lorna Pearce of Coulee City, Washington; and numerous great-nephews and great-nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister; and five brothers.
